Michael Francis Hutsky

Michael Francis Hutsky

Michael Francis Hutsky, 70, passed away on April 6, 2026, after a short but valiant battle with cancer.

Born on Jan. 12, 1956, in Johnstown, Pa., he was the son of Francis and Anne Hutsky.

He was raised in the Johnstown area and graduated from Conemaugh Valley High School. Throughout high school Mike demonstrated his artistic talent in painting and sculpting, and led Conemaugh Valley to victory in various art competitions. This led him to pursue an art degree at Penn State University.

He later worked at Bethlehem Steel, and then relocated to Virginia where he flourished in the tech field, employed at Transaction Network Services, Inc.

Mike lived a full and meaningful life grounded in hard work, generosity and a deep appreciation for the people and experiences around him. He was known as a generous and thoughtful host, always opening his home to family and making others feel welcome and cared for. Cherished memories include his lavish breakfasts, early morning yard sales and exploring the sights of Washington, D.C.

He especially loved yard sales with his sister-in-law, El, sometimes hitting over 50 in a single day. He had an eye for finding unique treasures which is reflected in his home.

He also showed his care in the way he stayed connected with family, often calling to check in on everyone, especially his brother, Gene. That was Mike — steady, thoughtful and always showing his love through what he did.

He had a deep love for the outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing with his family. Over the years, we had many memorable fishing trips to Chincoteague, Lake Champlain, Quebec and Ontario. Our family fishing adventures often led to delicious dinners featuring the catch of the day.

Mike was also gifted with a green thumb, likely inherited from his mother, Anne. He especially enjoyed propagating and growing plants, a quiet passion he shared with his sisters, Diane and Joan.

Mike was a devout Catholic and a proud American. He was a quiet man but demonstrated his faith and love for his family with actions rather than words. He will be remembered for his generosity, humility and the steady, caring presence he brought to the lives of his family and friends.

Mike is survived by his siblings, Gene (Eleanor) Hutsky, Diane (the late Edward) Michura and Joan (D. Scott) Laukhuff; his niece, Katie (David) Petersen; his nephews, Dana and Jon (Danielle) Laukhuff; his great-niece and nephew, Adam and Anna Petersen; and dear friends, Mark and Lisa Brady.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Anne (Ponczek) Hutsky.

A funeral mass will be held on June 27 at 12 noon at Immaculate Conception Church in Lock Haven, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, two organizations Mike supported.
