Leola M. McCurry

Leola M. McCurry, 96, of Cross Fork, Pa., passed away on Friday, July 10, 2026 at Lock Haven Rehabilitation and Sr. Living.

She was born on March, 10, 1930 in Conrad, Pa., one of 11 children to the late George and Lois (Purdy) McGuire.

Leola worked for 25 years for Sylvania in Emporium while living in Austin, Pa. while caring for her three younger siblings. She retired in 1969 and moved to Cross Fork, where she married Gene McCurry. After Gene’s death, Leola met Harry Chittister, whom she lived with for many years. She spent many years bowling with the teams out of Galeton and Austin, Pa., snowmobiling with her friends, hiking with her aunt Dorothy, crafting, crocheting, quilting and line-dancing with the Kettle Creek ladies line-dancing group. Leola worked in later years for Deb’s Place in Cross Fork and was a long time active member of the Kettle Creek Ambulance Association.

She is survived by her brother, James McGuire, of Renovo; three sisters, Joan (Neal) Proctor, of Julian, Jeanine Fraizer, of New York, and Judy (Hilary) Gunkle, of Florida, along with many nieces and nephews.

Leola was preceded in death by a husband, Gene McCurry, and also long time partner, Harry Chittister; two brothers, George McGuire, Jr. (Irene), of Cross Fork, and an infant Irving; four sisters, Ladora (Chuck) Spence, of Millville, Pa, Leah (Hamilton) Proctor, of Waterford Pa., Sandy Rooney, of Austin, Pa., and Phyllis McGuire, of Pittsburgh.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gedon Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, LLC 121 W. Main St. Lock Haven, PA 17745.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
