Dr. Lester G. Kleckner, 94, passed away with his two daughters by his side on July 25, 2026.
He is survived by his daughters, Stephanie (Joe) and Jacqueline (Parke) and two grandsons, Aidan (Casey) and Cullen (Abby), and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by Betty, his wife of 73 years who he considered his "soulmate" ever since they met when they were both 16 years old, and his older brother Roy Kleckner.
Les grew up in Booneville, Pa., where he attended a one-room schoolhouse during elementary school. A high school teacher who recognized his math ability recommended that he attend college. He graduated from Lock Haven State College (University). He continued on to earn a master's degree in math from the University of Illinois, a doctorate of education from Penn State and he completed post-doctoral studies at several different universities.
Dr. Kleckner taught math and science at several educational institutions, including his alma mater (Lock Haven University), and he retired from Jersey Shore Area School District.
He was proud to have served with the US Army Reserves from 1951-1971. As an experienced educator and mathematician, most of his service included operations, training and engineering, including being part of a team working on the U.S. Space Initiative.
Lester was an active member of Trout Unlimited, Cleanscapes, The Sugar Valley Lion's Club and numerous other environmental and service organizations.
He was an avid outdoorsman, passionate about hunting, fishing and being in nature.
He had a love of traveling, which he instilled in his daughters and his grandsons. They have many wonderful memories of the adventures they shared and are so thankful.
His grandsons have fond memories of time spent with their Pappy, playing indoor and outdoor games, reading books and working on special building projects.
Lester was generous with his time, talents and resources. He was blessed by continued friendship with former students, having a special relationship with the Jersey Shore Class of 1960. His daughters and grandsons are especially grateful for his support, love and legacy that has so enriched their lives.
A celebration of his life will be held at the family's discretion.
