Lara Jaye Hill

Lara Jaye Hill, 66, of Felton, Del., passed away on Aug. 9, 2026, surrounded by family at Bay Health Hospital in Dover, Del.

She was born Jan 17, 1960, a daughter of David Schoonover, Sr. and Sharon Erway Kramer.

Lara was a 1977 graduate of Bucktail Area High School and the Williamsport School of Technology for cosmetology. She went on to get her HAVC certification at Del-tech College in Dover, Del.

Over the years she worked many jobs, including the American Legion, Dover Air Force Base Military Supply, Clinton County Correctional Facility, Renovo Pharmacy, Dover Air Force Base Housing Maintenance HVAC and BX Plattsburgh Air Force Base. The one she was most proud of was preparing our airman to go overseas on deployment. She hugged every airman before they left. Lara worked on every Air Force base and supported her husband Ray's military career throughout his years of service in the United States Air Force.

Lara's favorite thing to do was to perform random acts of kindness. One was buying an elderly person's meal who was sitting alone. If she saw someone she felt needed a hug, she was sure to give them one. She volunteered at the SPCA, and made and took Christmas bags to Walter Reed Hospital, along with many, many more acts of kindness. She was always giving. She made friends wherever she went.

Lara loved her Pa. sports teams -- Penn State, the Steelers and the Penguins. She was a race fan and Dale Earnhardt was her favorite. She liked playing Bingo and slots. She played softball and bowled for the Plattsburgh Air Force Base women's teams. But most of all, she loved her family. She made each one of them feel like they were her favorite.

Lara was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, David Schoonover, Jr.; a niece, Addison Schoonover; and a sister, Kathy Phillips.

Lara will be greatly missed by her husband of 46 years, Ray Hill, Sr.; her son, Ray Hill, Jr. (Wanda); her daughter, Journey Lane (John); a grandson, Connor Hill; and her siblings, De Baker, Brenda Schoonover, Kenneth Schoonover, Jim Stidfole, Ray Stidfole, Dori Hand, Michele Bonczkiewicz, Jeri Wise, Linda Morton, Butch Kramer and Glenn Kramer.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
