Leland E. Bechdel, 75, affectionately known throughout his life as Junior, Dyke and Junie, passed away peacefully on Aug. 19, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of love, laughter, memories and a family who will miss him beyond words.
Born March 27, 1951, in Lock Haven, Pa., Leland was the son of the late Leland and Faye Bechdel.
For 53 years, Leland shared his life with his beloved wife, Amy Zerbe Bechdel. Together they built a life centered around family, friendship, hard work and countless memories. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
In addition to his wife, Amy, Leland is survived by his daughter, Jody Bechdel, and her significant other, Craig Stover; his two grandsons, Caleb Stover and Curtis Stover; and his great-grandson, Leo Stover, who brought great joy to his life.
He is also survived by his sisters, Viola Clukey and Becky Lavelle. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leland and Faye Bechdel, and his sisters, Judy Saar and Virginia Hummel.
Sister in-Law Lisa Zerbe Byerly and husband Doug. David Zerbe, Carrie Zerbe, Mikey and Hayden Hanley, and many nieces and nephews.
Leland was a dedicated employee of Haven Homes for 41 years, a testament to the hardworking and loyal man he was.
Away from work, Leland enjoyed the simple things in life that meant the most to him. He loved traveling, riding his motorcycle, spending time at the river, and most of all, his love for bird watching, being with the people he loved. Those who knew Leland will remember him as a kind and gentle soul whose presence had a way of making life a little better.
And, of course, anyone who spent enough time with Leland knew some of his famous sayings. A well-timed "Hold this" or "Dirty bitch!" could bring laughter to those who knew and loved him. Those little pieces of Leland -- the expressions, stories, laughter and moments that were uniquely his -- will be repeated and remembered for years to come.
After 53 years of marriage and a lifetime devoted to family, Leland leaves behind far more than can ever be captured in words. He leaves behind the love he gave, the memories he created, the laughter he shared and an unmistakable presence that will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
He was deeply loved, and he will be deeply missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the discretion of the family at a later date.
