Paul M. Taylor, 79, of Lock Haven, passed away peacefully on Aug. 13, 2026, surrounded by his family.
Born July 25, 1947, in Lock Haven, he was the son of the late Jack and Catherine Taylor.
Paul was a graduate of Bald Eagle Nittany High School and the former Lock Haven State Teachers College.
Paul was truly one of a kind -- quick with a one-liner, never short on sarcasm and always ready to strike up a conversation.
Baseball was one of the great passions of his life. For over 60 years, Paul was a respected umpire, officiating at many levels, including high school and collegiate baseball. He was also an avid Penn State football and wrestling fan and, in his earlier years, assisted with the wrestling program at Lock Haven University's Thomas Fieldhouse. Paul was also an accomplished bowler.
A true math whiz, Paul began his career as an algebra teacher before teaching himself computer programming. His career included many years with Piper Aircraft, Chef Boyardee and Brodart.
Paul was preceded in death by his devoted and loving wife, Deanna, and his parents, Jack and Catherine Taylor.
He is survived by his children, Paula Dauber, Scott Taylor and his wife, TL, and Christa Reese; his sister, Kathy Wise; his grandchildren, Ryan and Rachel Dauber, Brent, Brodie, Katlyn, Haley and Morgan Taylor and Avery and Mason Reese; 13 great-grandchildren; and his faithful little companion, Milo.
A casual Celebration of Paul's Life will be held Sunday, Aug. 30, 2026, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Lock Haven University baseball field, 193 Havenview Drive, Lock Haven, with a service beginning at 7 p.m.
Guests are encouraged to come comfortably dressed in jeans, shorts and sneakers -- and especially their favorite Philadelphia Phillies attire. Fans of other teams will be tolerated. Bleacher seating will be available, or guests may bring a lawn chair.
Paul will be deeply missed, fondly remembered and undoubtedly talked about for years to come.
