Carole J. Schoonover, age 84, of Mansfield, passed away on Friday, Sept. 4, 2026, at Broad Acres Nursing Home in Wellsboro, Pa. She was born on March 22, 1942, in Gaines, Pa., a daughter of Calvin and Crystal (Howey) Packard. Carole was married to the late William "Bill" Schoonover who passed away on Nov. 11, 2008. She and Bill made a life in Leidy, Pa., along Kettle Creek and raised three children there. Carole enjoyed beach vacations, running her antique business and tending to her flowers. In later years she enjoyed traveling and antiquing with her companion of nine years, Jesse Calhoun. One thing she valued the most was visiting with her family and friends, sharing stories, advice and her unique sense of humor while relaxing on her porch. Carole attended Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Carole is survived by her son, Kenneth Schoonover, of Renovo; two daughters, Paula (Brian) Gouse of Hinsdale, Mont., and Chris (Larry) Douglas of Safford, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Jason Ray (Laura) Schoonover, Lacy Dawn (Logan) Schoonover Culver, Shae Schoonover and Trace (Natasha) Douglas; five great grandchildren, Landri Culver, Lanie Culver, Colby Schoonover, Corry Schoonover, Lenore Douglas; and a sister, Aleta Gregory of Wellsboro, Pa. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a brother, Norman Williams.
Friends and family are invited to call on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 637 S. Main St., Mansfield, PA. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Steven Neff officiating. Burial will take place in New Maple Grove Cemetery in Leidy Township, Pa., at 3 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to New Maple Grove Cemetery 26 Reams Rd. Beech Creek, PA 16922.
