Helen Alberta Marks

Helen Alberta Marks, 97, passed away peacefully at home on Oct. 30, 2026.

Born on Sept. 22, 1929, in Lock Haven, Pa., Helen was the daughter of Albert and Ida (Hanna) Marks. She grew up in Lock Haven and attended Lock Haven State Teachers College.

Following graduation, Helen moved to Philadelphia with her husband, Dr. L. T. Moore, while he attended veterinary school. During that time, she taught school in Philadelphia for two years.

The couple eventually returned to the Jersey Shore area, where Helen embraced life as a devoted wife and mother while also playing an important role in her husband's veterinary practice. She was much more than a helping hand behind the scenes. Helen answered countless calls from local farmers and spent many hours on the two-way radio, coordinating calls and directing her husband to farms throughout the area. Her dedication and involvement made her an essential part of the family business.

After her youngest child began elementary school, Helen returned to the teaching profession. She taught at Salladasburg Elementary School for many years, touching the lives of generations of students before retiring in 1995.

Music was another important part of Helen's life. She enjoyed playing the piano and served as the pianist at Mount Zion United Methodist Church for many years, sharing her musical talents with her church family and congregation.

Helen also enjoyed traveling and shared many memorable adventures with her friend Jean Shelley in Jean's motorhome. Their travels took them throughout the western United States and all the way across Canada to Alaska. The journey was quite an adventure, with flying rocks striking their windshield along the way. These travels created lasting memories and reflected Helen's adventurous spirit and enjoyment of seeing new places.

Helen is survived by her six children: Charlotte (Barry) Whipple, Beth Ross, Julie (Mike) Person, T Scott (Karen Yeagle) Moore, Jeffrey J. Moore and Lisa (Robert) Glunk; her brother, Richard Marks, of Bemus Point, N.Y.; 16 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leroy T. Moore, VMD; her parents, Albert and Ida Marks; her grandsons, Thaddeus Ross and Scott N. Moore; daughter-in-law Linda Moore; and son-in-law Steve Ross.

Helen's life spanned 97 years and was filled with family, teaching, music, faith, friendship and adventure. From her years in the classroom to her dedication to her church and her many travels, she made lasting memories and touched countless lives.

Her greatest legacy is the family she leaves behind, spanning five generations. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
