Jacqueline Williams Saylor

JACQUELINE SAYLOR

Jacqueline Williams Saylor, 53, of State College, passed away at her home on Aug. 29, 2026.

Jacqueline was born in 1973 in Bellefonte to Melvin and Rita Williams and was raised there. Jackie received a bachelor's degree in education from Penn State University in 1996, and a master's degree in 2023.

After graduating, Jackie relocated to Denver, Colo., and worked in several professional capacities before returning to central Pennsylvania to begin a 28-year career with the State College Area School District. She began as a teacher on the ninth-grade team, and went on to teach, revamp and create a variety of courses at all grade levels within the social studies department, including AP U.S. History and Diversity & Social Justice.

Jackie advanced to become the Social Studies Coordinator, an Assistant Principal and concluded her career as the Assistant Director of Curriculum, K-12. Throughout her career, Jackie prioritized the needs of students, the development of supportive and collaborative relationships with her coworkers and the development of partnerships across departments and with outside organizations. Frequently, she would remind her colleagues that they were strong and brave, and that they could do hard things.

Jackie took great joy in her children and enjoyed travel. She organized many family trips and outings to broaden the experience of her family, and as they grew older, to share in their interests ranging from art and music to standup comedy. She was broadly read, interested in history, self-help and philosophy, mysteries and thrillers.

Jackie also treasured time with her friends, participating in weekly breakfasts and regular gatherings for lively conversation and loving support.

She is survived by a loving family including her parents, Melvin and Rita Williams; her husband, James; brothers Brenton Williams (Maria) and Marc Williams; sons, James Saylor and Brenton Saylor; a daughter, Cathaline Saylor; and two nieces.

Jackie endured a nine-year battle with cancer. She engaged actively in her treatment, seeking specialists, educating herself and working to her utmost to ensure the next best possible outcome. Her family credits this approach, along with her determination, with securing the additional time with her that meant so much to them. Jackie would remind people to pursue their screenings, understand the results and always be prepared to be their own advocate.
