Joan L. (Spotts) Gruendler, 89, of Lock Haven passed away on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2026 at The Gatehouse, Williamsport.
Born April 11, 1937, she was the daughter of Eldon and Grace Spotts.
Joan was married on Oct. 26, 1957 to Melvin Gruendler. They celebrated 67 years of marriage together.
She worked at many places including Grossman's and Luria's Dress Shop, Locks Restaurant, where she ran the gift shop and Lock Haven University Book Store and maintenance department before retiring in 1997.
She was Lutheran by faith.
Joan enjoyed cooking, playing cards, watching the Game Show Network and putting up with her sports-obsessed family when she would rather have been watching Hallmark. She looked forward to her almost nightly visits from her neighbor and friend, Sue Stover. Since bothered by spinal stenosis, Joan was thrilled to get a helper from the Step Office to assist with daily chores. Even though she only knew Ashley Smith for a few months, she really enjoyed their time together.
She especially cherished visiting with her children and grandchildren- and especially her great granddaughter, Ellie, who had Grammy wrapped around her finger.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; her sister, Patricia Swartz, of Lock Haven; and her brother, Eldon Spotts, of Williamsport.
Surviving Joan are her two sons, Mark Gruendler and David Gruendler, and his wife, Christine, both of Lock Haven; grandchildren, Jessica Dolan and her husband, Gary, and Joshua Gruendler, both of Lock Haven; and great granddaughter, Ellie.
