Born on July 26, 1931, in Sherwood, Mich., she was the daughter of the late Elwood Roy and Alma Elizabeth (Hazen) Thurston.

On July 2, 1949, she married her beloved husband, Richard D. McAtee, who preceded her in death on March 29, 2006, after sharing nearly 57 years of marriage.

Joyce's greatest role was that of a mother and homemaker, dedicating her days to the family that she loved so dearly. She took great pride in making a home filled with love, comfort and cherished memories.

She is survived by her children, Suzanne Dove (Joe K.) and Michael McAtee (Deborah), both of Bellefonte; granddaughters, Beth Sweitzer, Sonya Foster and Cody Nye; a grandson, Joe Pressler; three great-granddaughters, Sierra Nichols, Christy Pressler and Logan Nye; and three great-grandsons, Mitchell Parker, Jacob Sweitzer and Lucas Nye. Also surviving are seven nieces and four nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by grandsons, Colin McAtee and Jordan Witmer; a great-grandson, Tyler Davis; and her siblings, Alan Thurston and Janet Disbrow.

Though she was most proud to be a mother, she was also an exceptional cook; even appearing on "The Copper Kettle" television show in Michigan.

For several years she also worked as an Avon representative.

Funeral and burial services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
