Norma "Jean" Jackson Nihart, 88, passed away on Oct, 26, 2026.
Born on June 5, 1938, in Damascus, Va., Jean was the daughter of Edward Jackson and Margaret Jones Jackson.
She graduated from Damascus High School in 1956, where she played basketball for Bethel High School in Virginia.
Jean met the love of her life, Harold Nihart, in Eau Gallie, Fla. They married on Jan. 19, 1964.
In 1969, they moved to Pennsylvania to begin a new chapter of their lives and raise their family. Together, they operated Nihart's Restaurant from 1969 to 1970, followed by Nihart's Grocery in Lock Haven from 1970 to 1978 and Nihart's Grocery in Lamar from 1978 to 1988. They shared 46 years of unconditional love. Harold preceded her in death on June 8, 2015.
Jean enjoyed talking with her customers, sharing stories and getting to know the people who became part of their everyday lives. These conversations and connections were a special part of her years working in the family businesses.
Her greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted mother to her three daughters, Margaret Weber (Phil), Ada Probst (Rick) and Lynn Tressler (Jay). She especially loved spending time with her girls, and their many shopping trips together were among her favorite pastimes.
Jean was a proud grandmother to Stacey Probst (JR), Justin Fike (Rebecca Gresh), Shawn Weber, Dylan Kane, Rickey Probst (Erika Haines), Alea Probst, Zachary Tressler (Despie Roddenberry), Zoey Glover (Shaun) and April Nihart Brandel.
Her great-grandchildren, Chase, Blake, Evan, Noah, Roman, Karter, Beverley, Gina-Laine, Demi-Leigh and Bentley, brought her immense joy. She absolutely adored them and treasured the time she spent with each of them.
She is also survived by her sisters, Ann Woodruff and Elizabeth Holt.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Irene Goodman, William Jackson and Thelma French; her stepson, Gary Nihart; and her grandson, Shawn Weber.
The family extends its heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff at Haven Place in Lock Haven and The Gatehouse of UPMC Williamsport's Divine Providence campus for their unwavering dedication, compassion and loving care during Jean's final months.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to The Gatehouse, 1100 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701.
