James S. “Jim” Spong

James S. "Jim" Spong

James S. “Jim” Spong, 81, passed away peacefully on Nov. 3, 2026.

Born July 29, 1945, to the late Ferman S. and Ocie C. (Walizer) Spong, Jim lived a life marked by dedication, family and a deep appreciation for both nature and history.

After proudly serving his country in the United States Army, Jim returned home and embarked on a long and loyal career with Woolrich, Inc., where he worked diligently for 42 years. His work ethic was matched only by his passions outside of work.

An avid deer hunter and fisherman, Jim found great joy in the outdoors. He cherished planting and nurturing vegetables and flowers, a labor of love dedicated to his late wife, Ruth. His inquisitive spirit led him to spend many hours researching and learning about the history of his hometown and the surrounding areas.

Jim's warm heart also embraced the simple pleasures of life -- especially his beloved Christmas movies and any film featuring “The Duke,” John Wayne.

Above all else, Jim's greatest joy was his family. Though preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Ruth Y. (Pogue) Spong, his legacy continues through those who loved him dearly.

He is survived by his daughter, Terresa (Gary) Mancini; grandchildren, Nathan (Brittany) Krape and Amanda Mancini (Joseph Gibney); a great-grandson, Nicholas Krape; a sister, Irene Fravel; a niece, Kim Fravel; and a nephew, James Fravel.

A memorial service to celebrate Jim's life will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2026, at Rearick Carpenter Funeral Home, 1002 Allegheny St., Jersey Shore, Pa.

The Jersey Shore Honor Guard will be presenting full military honors following to conclude the service. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Family and friends are invited to visit from 12 p.m. until the time of the service.

Arrangements are being handled by Rearick Carpenter Funeral Home. Condolences and fond memories may be shared at www.rearickcarpenter.com.

Jim Spong's steadfast spirit, love of family and zest for life will be remembered by all who knew him.
