Clinton County continues to make its mark during America’s 250th
As the country celebrates its 250th birthday, Clinton County has wasted no time in commemorating the event throughout the county.
Boroughs, municipalities, organizations and businesses have provided events, contests and displays to recognize the historical marker.
Clinton County Government under the leadership of Maria Boileau (Voter Registration & Election Director) and Beth Whitty (Planning Office Coordinator) created and facilitated a countywide committee to collaborate and plan events leading up to July 4, 2026.
The official kick off was held at the Clinton County Courthouse on Jan. 28, 2026. Since then, community groups have held parades, ceremonies and converted annual events to match the theme of America’s Birthday year.
Two of the most significant projects included an America250PA mural grant and Harry the Hynerpeton.
The mural grant, which also found support from tourism and the City of Lock Haven, gave hundreds of individuals in Clinton County of all ages the opportunity to participate in painting tiles that would eventually be combined to create a scene mural of a Tiadaghton Elm tree with a deer. The mural was placed at the J. Doyle Corman Amphitheater.
The Harry the Hynerpeton project led by Bucktail teacher Josh Day and his students made the push for PA legislators to change the current state fossil to the Hynerpeton, a fossil found at Red Hill along Route 120.
In addition to attending a multitude of events surrounding America250PA, the Clinton County Commissioners shared what this special year means to them:
— Commissioner, James Russo: “We are blessed to live in this nation. We owe everything to the men and women who fought for our freedoms to make America the best country in the world.”
— Commissioner, Jeff Snyder: “America’s 250th Birthday celebration is a time for us as a nation to reflect on our rich history. Take time to pause and thank all of the men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice so that we are able to enjoy the freedoms we have. Please take advantage of the many opportunities to participate in the celebrations of America’s 250th Birthday in Clinton County.”
— Commissioner Angela Harding: “It is an honor to be a participant in this huge milestone for our country. While I respect the past and am grateful for all that has transpired to get us to this point, I am focusing on the future and continue to ask the question what can I do, what can we all do to move the nation and Clinton County forward for future generations.”
