‘We pledge allegiance to the flag’
We very much appreciate the work that local residents Terry and Carmen Banfill do in educating our kids about the American Flag.
The Express community newspaper recently featured Terry and Carmen presenting the Red, White and Blue to students at various schools in the area.
They have made some 225 flag presentations in over 20 years.
Every community needs a couple like the Banfills to engage their schools and students about the flag in support of teachers educating our kids about democracy, freedom and the responsibility that goes with it.
The Banfills’ work — their contributions both in time and money — to emphasize to our youth the important of our flag … what it means, what it stands for … is immeasurable.
As has been said, “When we honor our flag we honor what we stand for as a nation — freedom, equality, justice, and hope. We take the star from Heaven, the red from our mother country, separating it by white stripes, thus showing that we have separated from her, and the white stripes shall go down to posterity representing liberty.”
And we’ll leave you with one last statement from one of our country’s greatest presidents: “And let us never forget that in honoring our flag, we honor the American men and women who have courageously fought and died for it over the last 200 years, patriots who set an ideal above any consideration of self. Our flag flies free today because of their sacrifice.”
