Food & Music: Thankfully, the ‘Regatta’ will go on this weekend

Congratulations to the Lock Haven Area Jaycees for forging ahead with a scaled-down version of the annual holiday weekend Regatta.

The 50th version of this popular — and very important — event will start at 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

It is reduced in size and attractions due to COVID-19.

While there will be no powerboats in competition on the river this year, there will be food vendors and music on Water Street, east of Jay Street and along the beautiful West Branch of the Susquehanna River.

Food and music!

So why not take some bag chairs and sit atop the levee to take in the beautiful scenery while you enjoy the event?

And get this, every food vendor who came in 2019 will be here tomorrow and Sunday.

There will still be fireworks.

They’re slated to go off at 9 p.m. Sunday from the Water Street Dam.

It is no small task to coordinate and run the Regatta.

2020 is the event’s 50th year — it’s Golden Jubilee — so that means next will be even more special as racers come back to The Haven.

But we know many will put up with the reduced version of the event this year — wearing masks and distancing — in doing their part to stem the coronavirus.

2021 promises to be better.

We’re sure the Jaycees and their many community partners — including The Express community newspaper — will make sure of that!
