The bus stops here … again
How good to hear that River Valley Transit has found a way to fund weekend public bus service.
Yesterday and today, RVT restarted Friday-and-Saturday-only bus routes to Clinton County for free.
Next Friday and Saturday, the standard fees will kick in.
RVT is paying for the service that was formerly seven days and was paid for through a three-year trial program via a PennDOT Intermodal grant and various stakeholders, including Clinton County, the city, Lock Haven University and some business and industries.
The community has a solid taxi service in Lock Haven Taxi, for sure.
Uber drivers are around, too.
And a public bus service also helps to put the city and county on the map, giving those without transportation — or those who want to reduce their carbon footprint — access.
Educating potential riders must never end.
In fact, it must be ramped up.
A portion of the ridership was and is Lock Haven University students studying here after coming from communities with robust public transportation.
Meanwhile, the RVT bus will stop at various points, including Jersey Shore Weis Market, Clinton County Community Center, Walmart along Hogan Boulevard outside Mill Hall and other stops.
The new Friday and Saturday “Lock Haven Link” will operate from 9:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
Passengers can get complete details on the routes using the MyRide App, River Valley Transit’s exclusive bus locator and planning tool. The information may be obtained on the website www.rideRVT.com, by phone calls to the RVT administration office and from bus operators on the Lock Haven Link.
Regular fares on all fixed routes will resume this Monday, Feb. 1.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions and precautions fares were temporarily waved in the recent months. For the safety of passengers and bus operators River Valley Transit asks that face coverings be worn, maintain 6 feet of distance between others at all times and wash hands or use sanitizer frequently throughout the day.
River Valley Transit offers a variety of bus passes including “EZ Fares.” Available at the Trade & Transit Centre II customer service office, 144 W. Third St., Williamsport, on board each RVT Bus and will also soon become available in locations within the City of Lock Haven.
Lock Haven University students ride free with their college ID and as always, Senior Citizens ride free.
Now, on to the target marketing of our youth and seniors who are more in need of the service, or are more apt to use it.
