A quintessential volunteer: We need more Bill Sementellis

We like to think there are more and many people in our communities like Bill Sementelli.

Quiet, yet active and most of all, helpful.

Thanks, Bill, for your 20-plus years of helping the Clinton County Treasurer’s Office administer doe licenses.

As a volunteer, we emphasize.

And this isn’t just an ordinary volunteer.

Bill is an experienced 92 years old!

God Bless you, Bill.

“I enjoy it, I enjoy helping people,” Sementelli told The Express in a July 19 front page feature.

Again for the record: Work is nothing new for Sementelli. He is a trustee on the Sons and Daughters of Italy’s board.

He was a Chief Warrant Officer W3 in both the Air Force and the Army. After retiring from the Army in 1974, the father of four worked at Piper Aviation until the factory closed in 1984. From there he worked at Kephart Plaza and as a bartender at The Elks Lodge until his “retirement.”

Obviously, Bill doesn’t let the grass grow under his feet.

Back to our first statement: We’d like to “think” there are more like Bill.

Sadly, there are not.

Just ask the various service clubs.

We need more Bill Sementellis in this world.

A community’s civic health is defined to a large extent by volunteers who step forward to work and serve others.

We need MORE volunteers here and we’d love to see more younger people step up.

And as Bill proves, age does not matter.
