Need is still there for more poll workers

2 min read

We urge all interested citizens to consider and become a poll worker for the upcoming Nov. 11 General Election and future elections.

At a time when we see shortages of workers in general, and when our elections and our democratic processes are being called into question, we need more people to step up and strengthen the most critical and fundamental element of our Democracy.

Centre County commissioners just made a call seeking more poll workers.

Those who are interested may call 814-355-6703.

"We're always in need on a variety of different levels," Centre County Commissioner Steve Dershem said in a recent meeting. "We can either use them at the polling places or I think we are still looking for some folks in our vote by mailroom as well. I think there's lots of opportunities for folks to be present on Election Day."

He added, "General elections are not a small undertaking. We look forward to having as many hands on board as we can get."

Same goes for Clinton County.

Clinton Countians may call the county Voter Registration Office at 570-893-4019 to offer to help.

In Lycoming County, the Voter Services office may be reached at 570-327-2267, or toll-free at 1-877 868-3592.

"The most important office, and the one which all of us can and shouuld fill, is that of private citizebns," said Louis Brandeis.

Added Peggy Noonan, "Our political leaders will know our priorities only if we tell them, again and again, and if those priorities begin to show up in the polls."
