Congratulations to The Giosue Carducci Lodge, Sons and Daughters of Italy #146 for awarding more than $108,000 in grants to various causes -- and people.
From fire companies to the United Way to EMS to Jaycees to various scholarships to school sports teams and boosters to veterans to the YMCA to a local church to Millbrook to a Little League…
The list goes on.
Each year the lodge grants thousands of dollars to help people.
Run by volunteers -- we like to call them stewards --the local lodge is a gathering place for many people, including at the wonderful spaghetti dinner fundraisers.
Those patrons spend their dollars at the lodge and thus make the donations possible.
Of note, the lodge's namesake, Giosue Carducci, was an Italian poet -- in fact, the first Italian ever to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature.
We imagine if he were alive today, he'd been feeling rather "contento" (happy) and "orgoglioso" (proud) of Lodge 146's benevolence.
