John J. Hoffman, 76, of Nippenose Valley, passed away Saturday, July 16, 2016, at the Gatehouse.
Born Aug. 1, 1939, in Jersey Shore, he was a son to the late Francis L. Hoffman and the former Helen G. Brown. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence Hoffman.
John was a graduate of Hendrick Hudson High School in Montrose, N.Y. He was a truck driver for 50 years for many companies including Lucas, Don’s, Cardinal, Peter J. Schmitt Co., and National Freight. John served as the terminal manager for Cardinal and National, the director of safety. He was the co-owner of the Haj-Paj Restaurant, and throughout the years he had also worked at Disney World and IHOP.
John served as the Cub Master for F Troop in Lockport, N.Y. He volunteered for many Catholic Charities in Buffalo and was also a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Bastress. He was a member of the Elks and Moose Lodges, and the Knights of Columbus. John enjoyed railroading, ATV racing, horses, and Nascar.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Patricia D. “Patti” Hughes Hoffman; three children, Loretta A. (Vern) Nau of Jersey Shore, Douglas J. Hoffman Sr. of Prince George, Va., and Christine M. (Dave) Nau of Williamsport; two brothers, Robert (Peggy) Hoffman of Milford, Mich., and Francis (Pam) Hoffman of Rauchtown; a sister, Corrine (Albert) Rose of West Port Nova Scotia; sister-in-law, Charlotte Hoffman of Troy, Mich.; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two nieces; and 11 nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Friday, July 22, 2016, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 5373 Jacks Hollow Road, Williamsport, Pa. 17702. Visitation will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 21, 2016, at Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore, with a vigil service at 5:45 p.m. Father Bert Kozen will officiate.
A time of food and fellowship will be held after the Funeral Mass at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, 118 Kendall Ave., Jersey Shore.
Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in the Oval Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in memory of John may be made to the Dialysis Fund of Central PA at 1660 Sycamore Road, Montoursville, Pa. 17754.
