This is in response to Tim Mannello's sarcastic letter to the editor of Sept. 21 entitled, "Trump's economic touchdown."
As usual, in my opinion, Tim leaves out key details and misleads his readers. I will clarify by correcting his own metaphor.
"The Rah, Rah, Rah. Go, Trump, Go" Tim is hearing is from the fact that Trump intercepted the pass from Obama to Hillary at the one-yard line on the "Make America a Socialist Country," and has carried it all the way to the other end of the field where it belongs, to score a touch down at the "Make America Great Again" end of the field!
If Trump continued the policies of Obama, and the country is doing as well as it is now, then perhaps Tim Mannello would be correct in saying that Trump carried it over the goal line and is taking all the credit for Obama's success.
However, what Trump actually did was to reverse all of Obama's failed policies.
If President Trump is just riding the success of Obama, then why is it that – only when almost all of Obama's policies were reversed – this country finally started seeing such positive changes for the better?
Under Obama's eight years, we saw stagnant growth of less than 3 percent, the first time in history.
We saw higher taxes and making the rich pay more did not make the poor less poor.
We saw more illegals. I believe DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) was an illegal act by Obama because it circumvented Congress.
We saw fewer businesses, coal mines shutting down, and over burdened regulations. We saw more people on government assistance, and food stamps at an all time high.
And we saw high unemployment.
In less than half of President Trump's first term, there is record employment across the board, record stock market gains, record job growth, record tax cuts, and a strong military again.
Yes Tim, the "Rah. Rah, Rah. Go, Trump, Go" that you hear is the cheers from the Forgotten Man who is very excited that Trump has the ball now.
