Recently, I was driving from Lock Haven to Mill Hall on route 220.
As I was passing by the western most chemical plant that sits down over the bank from Route 220, there was a most horrible smell.
I am assuming that the smell was coming from the chemical plant, but I'm not sure.
I have smelled that odor before, when I was over in Loganton. The sickening odor was coming from the meat processing plant to the east of Loganton.
The odor originating from the fluids generated from the body fluids of slaughtered animals.
The meat processing plant also has tanker trucks that transport those fluids. They smell the same.
If anyone has ever followed them, or they drove by, you know what I am talking about.
It is a very distinct odor.
Now wherever this odor is coming from in our area, it has the very same smell.
The sickening odor is transferring into homes and businesses as well as lingering in the air in the Mill Hall area….
Where is this coming from?
Is the meat packing plant transporting these fluids to Mill Hall sewage system, or did something happen at the chemical plant to cause this odor?
It doesn’t smell like regular sewage.
It’s terrible, and probably not healthy.
I feel bad for those living near where this odor is originating.
It’s bad enough even two miles away depending on where the wind is blowing.
Could somebody check this out, and have it taken care of? It would be nice if there was an answer to address this situation.
(Editor's Note: The odor is coming from the Croda Inc. plant along Draketown Road, next to Route 220. The firm recently reported a build up of organic matter in the plant's wastewater treatment tank. A company official said the firm is working to resolve the issue and residents should notice the odor dissipating.)
