No man is above the law

This statement is one of the foundational principles of American democracy. It is beyond frightening how close we are to abandoning our freedom, since in fact this principle is being rejected under the threat of violence, by a large number of our fellow American citizens.

But we are way beyond that danger point. I can hardly believe it, but the Supreme Court is actually about to adjudicate whether or not presidents have an "absolute immunity" from criminal prosecution, even after leaving office.

Legend has it that Benjamin Franklin was once asked whether we would maintain our Republic. We will soon find out.
