Some people tend to ignore problems until it is too late. Of course, it's easier to do this if you know that you won't have to pay a price. Hurricanes Helene and Milton are shocking reminders of the human and financial cost of extreme weather events. Scientists warn that we'll see more devastating hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires and floods if we don't act now.
When I hear people say they don't "believe" in climate change, I usually just roll my eyes. But when someone running for president does it, it makes me angry. At 78 years old, Donald Trump is in the latter part of his life. It's easy for him to put his head in the sand or to roll back clean energy initiatives because he won't pay a price.
That's why it's refreshing that Kamala Harris understands climate change is a real threat and has a plan to address it. She wants to increase investment in clean energy, which will help slow climate change and create American jobs. She proposes substantial rebates to Americans who install energy-efficient heating and cooling in their homes. And by boosting renewable energy, she aims to drive down energy costs for consumers.
As a person in her 30s, I know that my generation will spend decades dealing with problems caused by climate change. That's why we need a president who won't duck the problem and force others to suffer the consequences. That's why I'm voting for Kamala Harris for president.
