I'm seeing a disturbing trend in the Republican Party both nationally and in Pennsylvania. That is the tendency to announce suspicious activity without providing evidence and sources. Think Sen. JD Vance and the false story about Haitian immigrants eating pets in Springfield, Ohio.
The latest example comes our way via House Republican Leader Bryan Cutler of Lancaster County. Cutler is repeating a claim that some of his fellow House Republicans have uncovered, according to the Lancaster newspaper, "multiple incidents of potential double voting" between residents of Pennsylvania and Ohio. But the claimants refuse to provide evidence and say more research needs to be done.
If you don't have the goods, you don't promote them.
Whatever happened to the famous dictum of that stalwart Republican, Ronald Reagan? As he famously said: trust but verify.
How can we trust Republicans if they rely on speculation rather than facts?
