Lewisburg
No one drives through a commercial strip with big box stores and says "Wow, this is so cute!" But people do love quaint, one-of-a-kind shops in vibrant downtowns.
I am proud to be a small business owner whose storefront in Lewisburg helps create a special place, one that draws people to shop and dine downtown, and enjoy the charms of personal service and unique offerings. My livelihood as a single person running a business, however joyful, is certainly not without sometimes enormous challenges.
So, I was excited to hear Kamala Harris' plan to push a policy to give entrepreneurs and other small business hopefuls $50,000 tax credit to start a business. This can make an enormous difference for people with great ideas and ambition. Expenses such as market surveys, ads, rent, health and liability insurance put pressure on any business owner to earn a living. Harris also proposes to set a standard tax deduction for individual filers, which will save me time and money preparing my taxes.
I am pleased to know that businesses could get such a boost as they are just starting out. That will help them grow larger and contribute to our economy. Thankfully we can elect a president who has solid plans to invest in more people like me and strengthen our downtowns.
