I am writing to express my disappointment with U.S. Representative Glenn Thompson's recent lawsuit looking to halt the counting of overseas ballots submitted by legally eligible Pennsylvania voters. This action seeks to undermine the constitutional voting rights of our military and citizens living abroad. It challenges long-standing and effective verification processes that ensure the integrity of these votes. Most importantly, there is essentially no documented history of voter fraud associated with overseas ballots. Instead, I think this lawsuit seems to be part of a broader voter suppression effort to affect the outcome of the 2024 elections.
Rep. Thompson's actions reflect a troubling trend towards undermining democratic processes, as seen by his previous objections to election certifications. His vote to oppose the PACT Act supporting veterans exposed to toxic burn pits and his authoring of an agriculture bill that does little for small and medium sized farms illustrates how out of touch he's become to the needs of his constituents.
It is evident that his tenure has been marked by actions that do not serve the best interests of Pennsylvanians in the US-15 district. It is time for new leadership that prioritizes the rights of all voters, supports veterans and small businesses and upholds the principles of our democracy.
It is time to give Zach Womer a serious look to replace Glenn Thompson.
