I understand that a lot of Catholics are reluctant to vote Democrat because of abortion. It seems a betrayal of their principles to do so.
But I urge them to do it because of what is called the "possible good." That voting Democrat will make it possible to do good there.
It is a fact that under Democratic administrations there are a lot less abortions than under Republican ones. That is, that having Democrats in charge lessens the abortion rate. And this is good -- in fact for any evil that is being fought in the world today, a decrease in the number of cases is seen as a triumph.
If something weakens the evil that you fight against, then your answer should be, "This helps us in our goal. This is something we can use as a starting point, a way to learn what to do and then do more. And the smaller the issue is, the easier it is to handle."
This is what is done in dealing with world hunger or with serious diseases, learn what decreases it and apply the new knowledge to make it go down further.
If someone protests that they want abortion gone NOW, all of it, mistrust them. They might be virtue signaling as a way to avoid the hard work involved. Tell them that this is not the way the world works, that this is not a TV show where everything is solved without the hour (or half hour), and that there is no substitute for what the Spaniards call "labor de hormiga" (ant's work).
Bless you.
