I trust that by now most people of voting age have seen the Trump campaign ad on television that talks of immigrants to the United States who have raped and murdered and who knows what else. The ad charges, or at least suggests, that these very bad people came into the United States during the Biden Administration, and that Kamala Harris, as vice president, is responsible. Maybe so. Maybe not.
But allowing the premise to stand, it also begs the question of what happened during Donald Trump's four years as president of the United States? Are we to believe that each and every one of the immigrants who entered our country during his presidency were model citizens?
So are we to believe that the Trump Administration's immigration policies and practices permitted only desirable individuals to come across our borders? If some undesirables did, in fact, make it into the U.S. during this four-year period, are we to blame that on then Vice President Mike Pence?
Sounds plausible to some, I'm sure. Isn't the question we really need to be asking ourselves, "Would I prefer living in a country where people are trying to get in, as opposed to a country where people are trying to get out?"
