Christians believe that, when public officials take an oath of office, they place their hand on the Bible and swear to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution, not the other way around.
Christian Nationalists act as though they believed that, when public officials take an oath of office, they place their hands on the Constitution and swear to preserve, defend and protect the Bible.
In fact, in taking their oaths to abide by the Constitution, public officials do not promise to elevate one religion over another. They promise to allow others to choose their own religion or not to choose a religion at all.
Christians strive to persuade others to live the Christian values of love of God and love of neighbor above all else. Christian Nationalists strive to force others to love God and love Americans above all else.
Christians are about values. Christian Nationalists are about domination.
Christians believe in universal love. Christian Nationalists believe in selective hate.
As Barbara Ehrenreich has said in a quote reminiscent of Sinclair Lewis' quote on Fascism, "When Christian Nationalism comes to a country, it will be wrapped in a flag and carrying a cross." Its kingdom has come.
