Most of us want to live freely, pursuing happiness for ourselves and our families. We don't want numerous federal agencies micro-managing our lives, slowly driving our country into bankruptcy while imposing their version of morality on us and our children.
However, a massive bureaucracy of unelected government officials in Washington, D.C., known as the "deep state," is doing just that. Fortunately, the new administration is fighting against this monster and providing short-term relief. However, constitutional amendments are the only permanent way to rectify this abuse. Congress could propose these amendments; however, as the saying goes, "Good luck with that." There's no way two-thirds of the politicians in our Congress have the political will to propose the appropriate Constitutional amendments.
Fortunately, the founders of our Constitution provided an alternative method for proposing constitutional amendments. Article V of the US Constitution empowers two-thirds of our state legislatures to, in effect, "force" Congress to call a convention to propose amendments. This convention would be a Convention of States (COS) and would be controlled by state legislatures. Many well-known conservative constitutional lawyers support this process.
Article V sets very high standards for proposing amendments to the Constitution through a COS and has an even higher bar for ratifying any amendments proposed. But, these high standards can be met when an energized citizenry sees its liberties being eroded in plain sight of a divided and inactive Congress.
