Turning personal discomfort into a crime

Paul Nelson

Tonawanda, NY

Hitler did it. Not many knew, but it was one of his first horrific decisions. He locked people with mental issues in prison camps. Out of sight and out of mind. It was a part of his maniacal plan to make a superior race, and it seems to be part of the current lunacy of trump. (No, I don’t capitalize his name and I never will.)

As an autism dad, I live in a constant state of incurable anxiety. My son is severely autistic, non-verbal and absolutely lovable. He’s not only my son; he’s my best friend.

As we walked this morning, I saw a parked vehicle with a Jesus bumper sticker along with a few extremist GOP stickers. I thought of trying to locate the owner and ask him/her if they would like to see my autistic son in one of trump’s Salvadoran death camps. I didn’t for one good reason. I would have completely lost it. I really don’t know what I might have done. I abhor violence, but have a bad temper when it comes to Nazis. How can an idiot have a Jesus bumper sticker and also support right-wing extremism? My answer came quickly. Hitler was a Christian and believed he was, in fact, doing what God intended.

Unlike trump, Hitler didn’t widely publicize his camps. U.S. soldiers were shocked when they discovered Auschwitz and other camps of horror. trump displays his camps proudly on FOX, his propaganda network. In fact, he proudly displayed Kristi Noem in front of prisoners as a taunt to anyone who has intelligence and thinks independently.

“Look at me! Look at how I’m keeping America safe.”

What a pathetic show. This has NOTHING to do with national security or our safety. Immigrants, especially those who have brown skin, the homeless, mentally challenged, physically disabled, chronically or terminally sick people make trump and his kind uncomfortable. Why? It’s simple. These people make them come out of their pathetically tiny comfort zones. They KNOW that it’s wrong to discriminate and condemn. These people are reminders to trumpers that we are all unique and different. That is perfectly fine unless you are a complete coward. The fact is members of the cult Christian right aren’t Christians at all. They are doing the complete and utter opposite of of what Jesus taught. (“What you do to the lesser of them, you do to me.” Matthew 25:40-45) It is the ultimate evil. It drove me and my autistic son out of rural PA: a trump stronghold, where trumpism is even preached in the “cult Christian” churches.

In spite of trump’s stupidity, he is a god to his followers, just as Hitler was. He has violated the Constitution, along with Vance, Johnson and many other GOP members. Any member of our government who has violated the Constitutional oath they swore to uphold is guilty of treason against the United States. That crime is punishable by death by firing squad.

I remember before we moved, I contacted the GOP Representative in the PA House, Stephanie Borowicz, and asked her if she would support any legislation that would secure the rights of mentally challenged people like my son, Michael. She wholeheartedly claimed that she would and then congratulated me on being a fine single special needs parent. I thought she was full of crap then, and my feelings are certainly confirmed now as I watch RFK, Jr. spewing his clueless insanity about autism. How do you feel about that, Ms. Borowicz? Your silence is deafening. How would you like it if one of your children might be locked up for having a disability through no fault of his or her own?

I feel safer in New York, especially in a city. There are some trump extremists here, but I’m not surrounded. Our governor has pledged to protect those who are less fortunate. That would be a Christian value, by the way. If your “church” tells you trump is on the right track, you are in a cult and need a serious visit from the real Jesus, who has nothing to do with donald trump, who does not even warrant capital letters in his pathetic title.
