As someone who lives and works in Pennsylvania, I believe in preserving what makes our state great--our natural resources and our communities.
Our natural gas industry isn't just about energy; it's about jobs, supporting local projects and ensuring affordable energy for families like mine. Recently, there have been discussions about changing how things operate, and I'm concerned about the potential impact on our state's prosperity.
The Impact Fee, which is a unique tax imposed on natural gas wells drilled here, has been crucial since its inception in 2012, generating over $2.7 billion. This funding directly benefits our communities, funding environmental initiatives, infrastructure projects and public parks that make Pennsylvania a better place to live.
The industry supports jobs in a variety of sectors that provide stability for families across our state. In fact, Pennsylvania ranks second only to Texas in natural gas production, meaning thousands of good jobs and economic benefits for communities across the commonwealth.
These jobs are the backbone of our local economies, providing stability and opportunity for families throughout Pennsylvania.
There's talk of introducing a tax that could jeopardize the stability provided by the current impact fee system. Such a tax could reduce funding for local projects and put jobs at risk--changes that could harm Pennsylvania's economic growth and energy security.
Let's continue supporting Pennsylvania's natural gas industry to protect our communities and ensure that our state remains a great place to live and work.
