I shouldn't be surprised. Anything coming out of the Trump administration is deadly; however, the latest scam deserves substantial attention. RFK, Jr., yes the man who took great delight in doing a whole lot of acid, chopping up small animals in a blender for his falcons, and sawing off a whale head and taking it home on top of his car, is going to "cure" autism. He fits right in with Donald Trump's thinking. Remember how Trump touted the use of bleach and Lysol as cures for Covid? I feel the need to speak up, because believe it or not, their idea is hardly new.
Autism is a developmental disability. Part of the brain doesn't develop properly. For years, the vaccine debate has raged. I don't know if vaccines have an impact or not. I'm not a doctor or scientist. What I can guarantee you as an autism dad of 27 years is that autism isn't a disease. We need to stop thinking of it as one. It's also not necessarily a curse. I know there are cases of extreme autism where every day is a nightmare for parents. We went through some times like that too. However, therapy, medications that calm Michael, and interaction with other kids helped greatly. Michael is a well-mannered, friendly and intelligent person. The dehumanization of autistic people is the greatest danger. That is precisely what Trump and Kennedy are doing. I've heard phrases like, "They just need to die," "They can't work or pay taxes," and "Caring for these people is too expensive." That's a deadly phase of this "administration," if you can call the Trump era an "administration." Make your followers believe autistic people are bad.
Now, I am hearing they are going to "cure" autism. Tragically, this has already been in the works for decades. Miracle diets, the removal of metals from the blood stream and most of all, a bleach formula that has killed many autistic children. Yes, a bleach formula was promoted by an "Emmy Award Winning" moron who was banned from Europe and fled to South America to escape murder charges. He has continued to sell his "snake oil" and I wouldn't be at all surprised if he's sold his idea to Kennedy and Trump. They don't want to cure. They want to sell and make a financial killing while eliminating a large portion of the population that makes them feel uneasy. "They can't handle the truth," certainly applies to the MAGA movement. I'm confident MANY MAGA supporters will buy millions of dollars worth of what Trump is selling. Their kids will die, but it will be too late.
What's the best way to fight back? Acceptance. Open your mind and accept the fact that some people are not like you. It's really common sense. My interaction with Michael and other mentally challenged people has been heartwarming and mind-expanding. It's transformed me from a miserable self-centered dork into a happy and free-thinking dork. I love going into Michael's day center and visiting with everyone. Try it. The developmentally disabled are valuable humans with a great deal to teach us. Don't fall for the Kennedy/Trump scam. It's pure snake oil, and it's deadly.
