It took one minute to find that Veronique de Rugy in the Monday, Dec. 8, edition of The Express didn't tell the whole story in her column. She claims that we are all doing wonderfully in an economic sense because income for the bottom fifth of the population has doubled since 1990 and wealth for the bottom quarter has tripled. While that is a mostly true statement, she neglects to inform us that since 1990 the purchasing power of the dollar has dropped by about half. So, if you double the amount of coffee in your cup, but then cut that amount in half, where are you with coffee? Essentially, the same amount you started with. That is where the bottom half of this country has been for the past 35 years. NOWHERE!
The top 10% of this country has nearly doubled their wealth in that same time.
So, in effect, De Rugy's statement is what they call a spin, designed to support politics. It was designed to make us feel like we got somewhere. These numbers, by the way, come from the US Federal Reserve, not some news organization.
You will never hear this kind of news on Fox News. Fox, and most all the others are all about spin. The American public's information is almost total junkmail -- with the exception of this source. We can't survive if that persists.
In a survey among the news media itself in which they rate each other on the accuracy of the news, here is the result. The AP (Associated Press), Reuters, C-SPAN and PBS News Hour were considered to be very reliable and accurate in their news reporting. But then, none of those news sources cater to the people who like the "if it bleeds, it leads" news groups like Fox and CNN. There is a chart that shows the lean of the various news sources.
