The Jess Long Family Scholarship of KCF

Howard M. Peters

Cupertino, Calif.

I was pleased to see in The Express that the BEN Class of 1964 contributed to the Jess Long Family Scholarship within the Keystone Central Foundation.

This is important work in these times. Education is a way forward.

The BEN Class of 1958 has been active in the Jess Long Family Scholarship. It was a joint effort of members of the KCF Alumni Hall of Fame.

Four BEN 1958 graduates learned the skills and background to continue on and each earned a Ph.D. in their STEM fields — Bill Rishell, Dennis Royer and, myself, Howard Peters along with Dr. Malcolm Heimer who was also the first National Merit Scholar in Clinton County over 60 years ago.

The BEN Class of 1959 included Dr. Judy Sensenbrenner who became an award winning pioneering woman medical doctor.

Many BEN and KCF parents and grandparents have benefitted from Jess Long’s local academic career. And he was also active on the BEN football staff.

I remember the many times he wrote letters of recommendation for my applications for college and for local employment.

Teachers do that.

And I still remember he taught us how to use the slide rule — our latest hi-tech device — 65-plus years ago. I will never forget it.

Starting at $3.69/week.
