I am writing to publicly thank Congresswoman Claudia Tenney and the U.S. House of Representations for an extraordinary act of recognition for my late father, Jacob Schneider, MDA, a World War II veteran who passed away in 1978 in Ovid, N.Y.
Thanks to the dedicated teamwork in Congress, our family recently received a flag flown on the Capitol, an official proclamation and a statement honoring Dr. Jacob Schneider and a grave plaque.
Most moving of all, Congresswoman Tenney stood on the House floor to read my father's legacy into the permanent congressional record.
She and her colleagues beautifully highlighted his immense bravery as a battlefield surgeon during the war, as well as his lifelong commitment to helping others as a medical doctor out of service.
In a time when the government can feel distant, our representatives united to ensure a veteran's sacrifices were permanently recorded in our nation's history.
Our family is deeply comforted by this profound honor.
