I don't understand why Trump administration officials, and Republicans in general, cannot explain the consequences of Iran's pursuit of nuclear weapons. The current talking point seems to be "Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon," which fails utterly as an explanation of why.
The reason is simple. If the current Iranian regime achieves a nuclear weapon, they will use it -- believing that their god has ordered them to destroy both Israel and the United States, and also believing that they will be supernaturally protected from any reprisal.
The only potential delay in Iran's use of a nuclear device would be stockpiling them for a larger first strike, or for the advancement of their ballistic missile program to target the U.S. at the same time as Israel. This delay strategy, measured in only months to a few short years, would be weighed against the risk of a preemptive strike against them, which would be astronomically more dangerous with active and armed nuclear weapons ready to fire, and likely impossible, guaranteeing a nuclear conflict in our lifetimes.
The Democrats oppose the war thinking that diplomacy and bribing Iran into good behavior is an acceptable strategy, which is a shockingly naive admission of their own ignorance of religious extremism. It's truly a shame that Trump has to consider political consequences in order to save the lives of hundreds of thousands of mostly Democrat voters in major cities, the likely targets of Iranian missiles. What's more disturbing is that the Democrats never would have tried to stop it in the first place.
