On March 26, the State Supreme Court gave Governor Josh Shapiro and the legislature a 120 day stay to pass a constitutional remedy involving automatic life-without parole sentences in Second-Degree murder cases violated the state's constitution, (referencing one case, Commonwealth vs. Lee) of the nearly 1,200 cases in Pennsylvania.
You would think and hope this Supreme Court request meant something to Governor Shapiro, but it didn't, he was too busy trying to recruit NBA All-Star LeBron James to the Philadelphia 76ers!
The Pennsylvania State Senate passed a bipartisan bill that addressed this issue, but Shapiro's allies in the Democratically controlled State House did not pass this bipartisan legislation.
Still playing basketball Shapiro said and did nothing! Shapiro's lack of leadership or even involvement in working on a constitutional remedy using the bipartisan passed bill from the State Senate as a start, is morally wrong.
With this failure to lead, 1,200 convicted murders in Pa. can begin to challenge their sentences. Which will force murder victims' families back into court to relive the unimaginable pain and force them the agony of confronting their loved ones' murderer again.
But all of you Shapiro fans, you get to watch LeBron James and the 76ers.
Remember this when you vote in November.
