That’s how many Pennsylvania households faced utility shutoffs last year. Not in a recession. Not during a natural disaster. In one of the wealthiest states in the richest country in the world, nearly 400,000 families couldn’t keep their lights on. And in the same year, Pennsylvania’s average electricity cost went up almost 15%. The average electricity bill has gone up more than 20% since 2024. Another round of rate increases is hitting us now.
Where is Josh Shapiro on any of this? He’s the highest-paid governor in America. He presides over the 47th-ranked economy in the country. He has the 5th highest tax burden. And his response to a utility affordability crisis is -- nothing. He welcomed in out of state data center developers who are consuming massive amounts of electricity and driving up energy costs for everyone else. And his only energy “plan” is to hold press conferences.
Press conferences don’t keep the lights on.
Here’s what a Garrity Administration will do:
Cut utility bills by 15-25%. Fast-track new power generation so supply can meet the growing demand. Cut property taxes by one-third through HOPE for PA initiative. 387,000 families. That number should keep every elected official in Harrisburg up at night. Instead, the Governor is on a book tour.
It is time to turn Pennsylvania around.
