Only in America can a person wear $300 shoes, drink $5+ coffee, use a $1,200 cellphone and are willing to vote for Democrat Communists because they think gas is unaffordable. So, let's explore the price of oil.
There have been 3 times in the past 50 years where gas prices or shortages have been big news. In the summer of 1973 there was an oil embargo in the Middle East and supply was sharply curtailed. Some gas stations ran out; cars lined up by the dozens at stations still with gas. This crisis ended when the embargo was lifted.
In 1979, another gas crisis was caused by events in the Middle East. Mile long lines and closed gas stations were the norm. This crisis too soon ended. In 2008 prices increased due to domestic and international issues. By June the price crested to the $4 mark but fell under $3 by October. Considering inflation, in the summer of 2008 $4.09 gallon of gas would cost $5.34 today (LNP/Lancaster Online, Sept. 27, 2026). This crisis passed as well.
Today, ask who canceled the Keystone XL pipeline cross-border permit on his first day in office? Who issued presidential memoranda on Jan. 6, 2025, barring new oil and gas leasing across more than 625 million acres of federal waters along the Atlantic and Pacific coasts, the Gulf of Mexico and sections of Alaska? Who placed over 13 million acres of the National Petroleum Reserves in Alaska off-limits to new drilling? Who closed 44 million acres of federal waters in the Northern Bering Sea to offshore drilling and gas leasing? Who canceled the remaining oil and gas leases in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge that were sold under Trump's first administration? Democrat President Joe Biden.
What about the state of California? California has lost roughly half of its operating refineries over the last 20 years, falling from 23 to 11. Gas companies point to strict state environmental rules, high compliance costs and unique local fuel blend requirements. The tightened supply sparked price spikes up to 40 cents a gallon and increased overall price volatility across the West Coast. The state now relies heavily on costly marine imports from overseas markets.
Keep in mind that gas prices under Biden were $4.22 in March 2022 and peaked to $4.93 per gallon in June 2022 and rose to over $5 nationally that summer. Cause -- post-pandemic economic recovery, global inflation and "supply disruption due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine." Where was the outcry! Could it be because we had a Democrat president at that time?
This Iran conflict will end; prices will recover. Voting for the Democrat Communists over the price of gas will destroy America and we will never recover!
