State should combine the game and fish commissions

John E. Haines Renovo Saturday, April 5 is the first day of trout season, and according to the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, they sell 790,000 fishing licenses! What I’ve learned is that Pennsylvania is the only state in the union that has a separate Game and Fish Commission. It’s my opinion that it would be advantageous if the Commonwealth would combine the two. It would reduce expenses and make the two more efficient. Another thing I would like to see is Pennsylvania move the opening day for deer season back to the traditional Monday after Thanksgiving, statewide. ...

WPSU needs us, and we need it

Dorie Evensen State College Public media in central and northern Pennsylvania is at a pivotal moment. When Penn State announced it would no longer support WPSU, the future of local public television and radio became unclear. More than 20,000 people signed a petition urging the University to protect this essential community service. Both back the SAVE America Act — legislation requiring you and me to provide documentation of citizenship each time we vote, whether in person or by mail. Alright…why? MICHAEL RENDOS Lock Haven Kudos to the selection of Rich Wykoff to fill the Region VIII position on the KCSD School Board. Mr. Wykoff is a seasoned former educator, with extensive experience in both the classroom and administrative side of the educational process, and will make a seamless transition to the function of board policy. He is a soft spoken individual, but I suspect his voice will ring loud and clear when it comes to what he believes is best for the kids sitting in the classroom seats. WHYY/WPSU advancing

Kelly Hastings Mill Hall As a member of a group working to preserve public media for our region, I want to address some concerns that have been raised about the proposed partnership that would result in WHYY in Philadelphia acquiring our local WPSU stations. The planned transfer of the WPSU broadcast license to WHYY is still happening. Pending the completion of the asset transfer and transitional services agreements, the broadcast license transfer requests of the FCC will be filed.
