Put the Nativity in Triangle Park

Carol Eberhard Lock Haven I want to state I am in favor of our local Christians displaying that they have blown $10,000 to show that they celebrate the Birth of Jesus. The same Jesus who taught us to tend to the poor and the sick. It will make me think of how much food for the food banks, and how much heating fuel, and how much good that money could have done. Every time I get approached asking for money to help people, I can rest assured that those Christians must be sending in enough to cover things, because they obviously have an over-abundance. Look at all the beautiful ...

Christian?

Elsie Miller Mill Hall I attended the LH City Council meeting on Nov. 25 to support the Downtown Manager, who was being harrassed. Her job is to increase business in Lock Haven, and she placed a Gingerbread display in Triangle Park to draw people from surrounding communities. She believed this was best for the business in Lock Haven, and had approval from the DLH Board of Directors. We’ve already lost Uncle Joe’s Woodshed and I don’t want to lose more hometown businesses. The question at hand, the placement of a nativity in Triangle Park and what the proper way to have that ...

One story end, another begins

JoAnn Knupp Bellefonte After 35 years, Care For People is closed. I want to thank all of the people in Bellefonte and in Centre County for allowing us to take care of your elderly loved ones so that they could remain in their homes as long as possible. We had caregivers of all ages — Charlotte was in her 80s and helped until she was no longer able to do it. Ten years after Care For People was established, we started Care For People Plus, with the goal of providing services to those living with intellectual and physical disabilities. Care For People Plus recently was sold to ...

Downtown looks fantastic!

Heather Bechtold Lock Haven Downtown Lock Haven is looking extra festive this year! The Christmas decorations and lights are absolutely beautiful, and it really feels like the whole community is getting into the holiday spirit. It’s so heartwarming to see local businesses and neighbors come together to make the season so special. I applaud the partnerships between businesses and DLH, Inc. making our town so special. If you haven’t had a chance to walk around downtown yet (shop & dine), I highly recommend it. You won’t be disappointed.

Thompson’s continued misrepresentations

Norita Chyle State College In his recent email to constituents, Congressman Glenn (GT) Thompson continues to stoke fear with inaccurate information. He claims “the average price of a traditional Thanksgiving is the most expensive in history, according to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data.” Those data aren’t about Thanksgiving. They’re about the consumer price index; we already know that there’s still some inflation–although it has declined dramatically. Searching through the data shows that price changes are much smaller than Thompson claims, with some foods actually ...

Skatepark ideas

Katelyn Ann Smith Lock Haven The skatepark was such a nice addition to our town. I do wish it had a bathroom. Maybe there’s future plans to build a bathroom? A pavilion would be nice as well. The city could rent it out for birthday parties. Maybe even install a couple grills. Just some ideas. I know these things come with a price tag!
