Grace Russell and Emma Pfirman each went 2 for 3, but it wasn’t quite enough as Jersey Shore lost to Danville on the road, 4-1, in high school softball.
Isabelle Engel pitched the entire game and earned the loss in the circle. Danville scored all four of its runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and the Ironmen out-hit the Bulldogs, 7-5.
Jersey Shore is now 5-2.
• Jersey Shore dropped a 4-1 match to Montoursville in boys tennis on Saturday. Tyler Gilbert (No. 1 singles) and DJ Alexander (No. 3) received victories via forfeit. Jackson Stemler of Jersey Shore won at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-4 over Jared Matlack.
Kaleb Watts and Domanick Young won for the Warriors at No. 2 doubles, 6-3, 6-1 over Brennon Smith and Aaron Baker.
• In college softball, Lock Haven split with Bloomsburg, winning the opener 5-1 before falling in the second game, 12-4. Warrior Run graduate Madison Waltman struck out four and yielded four hits in the game one win for Lock Haven as she threw all seven innings.
Amanda Criss hit a double, Morgan Karasek had a triple and Sydney Arrigale belted a home run for the Bald Eagles.
Riley McClellan led the Bald Eagles in game two, going 2 for 4 with a triple and home run. Delaney Good went 2 for 4 as well and Amanda Criss was 2 for 3.
• Shepherd swept Lock Haven, winning 6-5 and 13-12 in 10 innings in college baseball. In the second contest, Lock Haven collected 20 hits despite the loss. Seven batters had two or more hits.
Camden Moors went 4 for 6 with a double and two RBIs and Jake Mastillo (3 for 5), Joe SHannon (3 for 6, home run) and Gabe Stirr (3 for 6, double) all had three hits.
In the first game, Lock Haven was led by Justin Lichtenwalner and Zach Kaatz, each of whom had a double. Blaise Zeiders was the Bald Eagles’ only batter with multiple hits as he went 2 for 4.
• Lock Haven’s women’s lacrosse team owned a 4-1 lead after a quarter of play but couldn't hold off a second-half surge from the host Lakers as the Bald Eagles fell, 9-8.
The Bald Eagles got on the board first, netting the game's opening two goals. Unassisted tallies from Casey Hibbard and Caitlin Morrow handed LHU a 2-0 advantage after two-and-a-half minutes of play.
Mercyhurst responded with a goal to trim the gap, but the rest of the first frame went the way of the Bald Eagles. Following the Mercyhurst tally, Hubbard found the back of the net again before Campbell Brant got on the scoresheet with a goal in a woman-up situation to put the Bald Eagles ahead by a 4-1 score which is how the game would remain after 15 minutes of action.
• Lock Haven fell to Millersville, 7-0, in women’s tennis. Millersville took control early and took all three matches in doubles play winning 6-1, 6-0, and 6-1.
At No. 1 singles, Maddy Reeves, a Montoursville graduate, put in a strong effort, but fell 6-3 and 6-2.
• The Lock Haven University women's outdoor track and field team returned to Bucknell and the Bald Eagles performed well at the Bucknell Team Challenge, finishing fourth in the team standings.
Standout-hurdler Billie Jo Bollinger hit another all-time top-five performance in the 400 meter hurdles. She shaved nearly a second off of her best time to record an astounding LHU No. 2 all-time mark of 1:02.44. She continues to lead the PSAC in the event.
Morgan Perry's sensational season continued today as she ran the fourth-fastest 3,000 meter steeplechase in LHU history. Her run of 11:14.77 marks a personal best of over 30 seconds and elevates her to the third-ranked steeplechaser in the PSAC. She is now ranked top-three in both the steeplechase and 5,000 meter run.
Throwers Megan Manglaviti and Hannah Weddle had impressive days yet again for LHU. Manglaviti finished fourth in the javelin throw with her mark of 155 feet, 2 inches. Similarly, Weddle finished fourth in the shot put with her mark of 38 feet, 2 and 3/4 inches.
• The Lock Haven University men's outdoor track and field team turned in a strong effort at the Bucknell Team Challenge. A number of solid individual performances headlined the day and led to a list of PSAC championships-qualifying marks. Sprint sensation Ryan Miller, the PSAC indoor champion at 400 meters, turned in a runner-up performance in the 400 meter dash. Miller crossed the line in a time of 48.88 seconds which was the top non-Division I performance of the day.
Miller also set a new fast-time for the season in the 200 meter dash. Miller crossed the finish line in a time of 22.50 seconds to finish in eighth place. The Bradford native was the third-best non-Division I runner in the field.
In the 3,000 meter run, Gage Krall was impressive yet again. Krall finished in the runner-up spot with a time of 8:27.76. The effort was the top non-Division I time of the day in the event and just missed out on the school-record pace of 8:25.31 set by Ryan Blood in 2008.
