Whitehill to be inducted into Centre County Chapter of PA Sports Hall of Fame

Budd Whitehill will be inducted into the Centre County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame on Sunday, Oct. 16, at a banquet at the Penn Stater.

Whitehill started the wrestling program at Lycoming College, where his teams posted a record of 376-173-5 record and won 10 MAC championships in 37 seasons, along with 38 All-Americans, 66 conference champions and four national champions. During his career at Lycoming he also coached baseball (1956-1963), football (1956-1971) and was a physical education professor.

The Division III Budd Whitehill Duals are named in his honor along with the wrestling room at the college.

Whitehill attended Bellefonte where he lettered in four sports — football, wrestling, baseball and basketball. He attended Penn State University and Lock Haven University where he was a member of the football and wrestling teams. In 1954 he signed a professional baseball contract with the Philadelphia Athletics League.

He is a member of the following Hall of Fames: District IV Wrestling, Pennsylvania Wrestling, West Branch Valley, Lock Haven Wrestling, NCAA Wrestling Division III, the Pennsylvania Chapter of National Wrestling, The Middle Atlantic Conference Inaugural Class, Lycoming College and the Ray Keyes Sports Award.
