Central Mountain boys basketball caps season in district semis loss at Selinsgrove
The Central Mountain boys basketball team fell to the Selinsgrove Seals, 58-37, to end its season in the District 6 Class AAAAA Semifinals. Hunter Hoy lead the Wildcats with 22 points but was the lone double-figure scorer. Caleb Mahoney added six points while Brady Myers contributed four.
Selinsgrove had just two players in double figures but made 24 field goals and its two players were big contributors as Ries Naugle had 23 points on 10 made shots while Gavin Bastian finished with 18. Bastian had 11 of the Seals’ 16 in the second quarter.
The 37 Central Mountain points were a season-low as the Wildcats completed the season 13-9.
Both teams got off to slow starts as both squads didn’t reach double digits until the second quarter. Central Mountain was in the game at the half, down just 25-18. And in the third quarter, although trailing Selinsgrove led 41-32 heading to the final stanza.
The Seals took over in the fourth quarter, pulling away from Central Mountain by outscoring it, 17-5 in the final eight minutes. The Wildcats got a 3-pointer from Hoy and two free throws from Mahoney which closed its 2023-24 campaign.
