The District 4 golf championships concluded on Saturday at Williamsport Country Club and numerous golfers from the district saw success and medals. The area’s only gold medalist though?
That would be Carter Girton of Jersey Shore, who shot an impressive 76 on Day 2 of the championships to secure a gold medal with a total score of 154 and secure a spot at the PIAA championships in Hershey.
Girton won by four strokes over Athens’ Eli Hicks. Hicks led the field in Class AAA on Thursday with a 73, putting Girton five strokes behind after he shot a 78. But Girton played outstanding on Saturday, the only golfer in Class AAA to card a 76 or better, as Hicks shot an 85, securing Girton’s first-place gold medal.
Jersey Shore’s Ryan Ault was a fifth-place finisher after shooting a 77 on Saturday for a score of 174. The Bulldogs’ Mason Heydrich finished 10th with a 181 after shooting a 95 on Saturday.
