This week of the winter sports season brought a bit of a break for several teams including girls basketball, both boys and girls swimming and boys wrestling. The boys basketball team faced a tough loss, while the girls wrestling team enjoyed success at the Clearfield tournament.
The Wildcats boys basketball traveled to DuBois for a rematch of their season opener, but were outmatched by the Beavers in a 69-36 loss. DuBois jumped out to a quick 21-7 lead and never looked back. Coach Tyler Bardo emphasized the need for focus and accountability moving forward.
"This loss does not meet the standard we hold ourselves to in terms of focus and accountability," said Bardo. "We need to develop competitive stamina to sustain 32 minutes of basketball and extend beyond just one game."
Hunter Hoy led the Wildcats with 26 points.
Central Mountains girls basketball team had a break during the holiday week. They returned to action on Monday against Mifflin County in Mill Hall.
The girls and boys swimming teams took a break this week. Their next competition will be this Friday at LHU's Zimmerli pool.
The boys wrestling team had the week off as well, with their next event being the Coudersport Duals on Saturday.
Central Mountain's girls wrestling team had a successful outing at the Clearfield Square One Tournament by finishing in third place. The team had two individual champions: Austynn Falls and Kendall Wagner, both of whom pinned their way through their brackets to take the top spots.
Other notable place winners include Kaitlyn Scarborough-Perez (third), Emma Scarborough-Perez (second), Mallory Wunder (fourth), Ashley Miller (second) and Jacey Tripp (third).

The recognition goes to both Austynn Falls and Kendall Wagner of the girls wrestling team for their dominant performances at the Clearfield tournament, where each pinned their way to the top of their respective brackets. Congratulations to both.
