Local roundup: Eiler leads 18-hit effort for CM softball, as team run-rules Danville on road

On the road at Danville on Monday afternoon, the Central Mountain softball team produced a season-high 18 hits, an effort which culminated in a 13-3, six-inning victories – the team’s second straight in Heartland-I play.

Junior Aubrey Eiler led that effort with four hits, a homer and double, as six Wildcats logged multiple hits, four posted doubles and Camdyn Weaver and Cirstyn Watson attributed a triple and home run respectively. Joslyn Shultz made an impact from both the mound and plate, pitching a complete game that featured eight strikeouts and no walks while also posting two doubles.

Coming off two wins, Central Mountain (4-1) will look to carry that momentum into a road matchup against Selinsgrove, with that game set for tomorrow at 4:30 p.m.

Jaylee Lose turned her two at-bats into two high-flying, multi-RBI homers to lead a four-homer outing for the Red Raiders, as Bellefonte scored 13 through the first three innings to defeat Bellwood-Antis, 15-5. Those homers for Lose culminated in seven RBIs, with Ragan Manning (2-for-3, 2 RBIs) and Taylor Brown (2-for-4, 4 RBIs) also attributing home runs of their own.

There were blemishes defensively, as Bellwood-Antis put up three runs in the third and two in the fifth. But Alaina Smith still pitched a solid four innings, as she and closer Ryleigh Parette combined for four strikeouts to two walks and the field did the rest. They’ll carry a well-balanced effort in road matchup against Hollidaysburg on Wednesday.

Five Spartans logged multiple hits and pitchers Ella Breneisen and Maddie Smith held Bucktail (3-4) to four consecutive scoreless innings, as the Hughesville softball team turned a 1-0 deficit into a 12-2, six-inning win to sweep the season series against the Bucks.

For Hughesville (6-1), Breneisen and Smith combined for ten strikeouts, four surrendered hits and two walks while also leading the charge from the plate, with Breneisen (3-for-3, 2 RBIs) falling one home run short of a cycle and Smith (2-for-3, 2 RBIs) leading the team in runs. The Spartans as a whole combined for seven runs in the second to turn the game on its head before scoring two in the fourth and sixth to seal it.

The Bucks were led by Lola English and Eva Sockman, who each notched two hits. They’ll look to bounce back in a home matchup against Northwest on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

The Bellefonte baseball team took a two-run lead in the second inning and never looked back on Monday afternoon, defeating Bellwood-Antis, 7-1, behind a strong effort from its field and active bats.

Zach Lehman (3-for-4) notched three RBIs on three hits, Parker Capparelle broke off a two-RBI homer and the Bellefonte field combined with its pitching arsenal allowed just one sixth inning run while committing zero errors. In getting back to .500, the Red Raiders (4-4) will look to obtain a winning record at home Wednesday against Hollidaysburg.

After seeing its mid-game lead evaporate in the blink an of eye, the Bald Eagle Area baseball team didn’t blink in its response, logging seven fifth-innings runs to steal the momentum back before going on to defeat Penns Valley, 13-7, on Monday afternoon at home.

Wyatt Spackman, Luke Hosband and Isaac Johnson led the way from the plate with two hits each, and Kaleb Irion pitched a sound three innings of relief to help seal the deal, allowing just one hit while striking out three. Though the going has been tough, the Eagles are back on track after a six-game losing streak and will look to carry that into Thursday’s matchup against Bellwood-Antis.

In a game that was extended to almost six hours due to a delay, Central Mountain baseball managed to do much of the necessary damage prior to the stoppage, erupting for seven innings in the first and going on to defeat Shamokin, 13-2, in five innings on the road. Four Wildcats – Brady Lavelle, Blake Walker, Darius Shade and Malaky Moyd – logged a double paired with an RBI and Jase Seltzer and Nate Wian pitched a composed, five innings from the mound, with Wian notching a team-leading four hits as well. The win makes it seven straight to start for the Wildcats, who will look to make it eight at Jersey Shore on Thursday.
